When one of the leading manufacturers of hiking boots celebrates its 100th anniversary, where better to do it than on the Top Trails of Germany? That's exactly what LOWA did. Carefully selected LOWA hikes led by experts took place on all 13 long-distance hiking trails that are part of the Top Trails to mark the milestone anniversary. Also on the Rothaarsteig.
"Lonely summits and hut stops" was the title of the recent anniversary hike on the Rothaarsteig, which was led by Katharina Schwake-Drucks and Harald Knoche from the Rothaarsteig Association. Together with 15 participants, they set off on the challenging 13-kilometre route with 376 meters of ascent and 345 meters of descent in temperatures of over 30 degrees Celsius and almost too much sun.
The tour started in Olsberg-Bruchhausen. From there, the route climbed steadily uphill to the Bruchhauser Steine national natural monument. After this first effort, the participants were rewarded with a magnificent view. A souvenir photo in front of the summit cross was a must before the tour continued along narrow paths and past the "Feuereiche" artwork over the so-called "Ginsterkopf" - a mountain ridge with 360-degree views. Via "Borbergs Kirchhof", which offered welcome shade, the group reached their destination, the Hiebammen Hütte in Brilon. Everyone had more than earned a cool drink and refreshments. They were also delighted to receive a LOWA goody box.
"The guided tour on the Rothaarsteig was fully booked in no time at all. In fact, interest was so great that we created a waiting list. Some of the participants were prepared to travel long distances. It was a great opportunity to get new hikers excited about the Rothaarsteig," said a delighted Katharina Schwake-Drucks, responsible for marketing and public relations at the Rothaarsteig Association.
To mark the anniversary, the traditional company is organizing a total of 14 guided hikes together with the Top Trails of Germany until October. The half-day and day tours are between 10 and 15 kilometers long and packed with many natural highlights. They include routes that are also suitable for beginners.
A prize draw will be held at the end of the year among all participants in the 14 hikes, with attractive prizes to be won. The winner can look forward to a long weekend at the Sauerländer Hof on the Rothaarsteig.
