We look forward to being out and about with you on the Rothaarsteig on the SportScheck Hiking Day on August 24, 2025. The shorter tour of the SportScheck Hiking Day starts in Bad Berleburg-Wingeshausen and covers 10.4 kilometers over an altitude difference of approx. 250 meters, first via the Wisentpfad and then via the Rothaarsteig to the Rhein-Weser-Turm. On the way, we take a break at the bison hut.

The SportScheck Hiking Day 2025 on the Rothaarsteig - short tour
  • approx. 7:30 am departure from Dortmund (exact time and location to be announced)
  • 09:00 a.m. Arrival in Schmallenberg-Latrop - small refreshment and toilet break
  • 10:00 a.m. Bus shuttle to the start of the shorter tour to Wingeshausen

After a little refreshment in Schmallenberg-Latrop (this is where the longer of the two tours starts on this day), we take the bus a short distance to Bad Berleburg-Wingeshausen. There we start our hike on the Wisentpfad, one of the 14 Rothaarsteig trails. We soon reach the bison hut. A hearty hiking snack provides an opportunity for refreshment (tip: the bison hut is the starting point for a visit to the bison world on the Rothaarsteig. We won't be experiencing this today, but the next trip to the Rothaarsteig is sure to come...). After refreshments, we set off on the Rothaarsteig. The Somborn spring is a nice place to rest and refresh. Continue via the Margaretenstein and the old post road to the Rhein-Weser-Turm, the destination of today's tour. The day's hiking ends in the hiking restaurant in the tower.

Author Tip

Pack enough water despite stopping at the Wisent hut. You can top up your water supply at the Somborn spring.
