"Poetry and nature" - in the romantic Hickengrund we meet Goethe, Schiller and Novalis, who accompany us with their words through the wonderful three-country corner.
Dear hiker, unfortunately we have to mention here that the path is no longer marked in various places due to extensive deforestation.
Vandalism has also taken hold and destroyed some of the audio stations and trail markings. We are working hard to restore everything in time for the hiking season so that you can enjoy the trail again.
We hope for your understanding

Uniform marking: Rothaarsteig trail Romantic Hickengrund
We start the tour at the "Großer Stein" hiking parking lot in Holzhausen. We hike uphill together with the Rothaarsteig access trail. In the immediate vicinity of the "Großer Stein", we come to one of the seven listening stations. A few steps later, we meet up with the Rothaarsteig (RHS). We now turn left together towards Lützeln. Suddenly, the magnificent view of Lützeln, nestled in the valley below, opens up to us. After descending to the edge of the village, the path climbs back up towards the sports field. As a relic from the time of an active quarry, we later pass the old crushing plant. Continuing along the entire route, we turn right together with the RHS and reach the next highlight: the view at the Kaolin clay pit. After kilometers of varied scenery, we follow the path to the left towards the forest. After 10 km, there is a Höppches Hain rest area on the left of the route with a great view. At the border triangle, we become border crossers. Wide forest paths then lead northwards on the northern flank of the Hickengrund. We stay on the high ground and make our way to the next vantage point "Einsamer Baum". Soft meadow paths then accompany us downhill, with some steep sections to contend with. Shortly before Niederdresselndorf, we cross the stream via a wooden bridge. After the village, we climb uphill through open meadows to the edge of the forest. We return to the start at the hikers' parking lot on an almost flat path.

Equipment and food for a day tour and good footwear recommended. Sure-footedness is required for the path passages, the tour can be split:
Most hiking trails run away from towns and settlements and every hiker has thought about what would happen if an emergency were to occur. How can I be found here? Where am I anyway? Can the emergency services reach me?
In an emergency, things have to happen quickly! That's why the Rothaarsteig is equipped with so-called rescue signs throughout. The green and white plaques attached to the posts of the signposts have a number that you must give when making an emergency call. This means that the emergency services know exactly where you are and valuable time can be saved.
The seven audio stations make the hike an unmistakably romantic experience! Visit the old schools in Niederdresselndorf or Holzhausen.
