Current restrictions on the Rothaarsteig

Due to various circumstances, there may always be closures, detours or restrictions along the Rothaarsteig. The current information known to us is summarized here. If you come across an obstacle that is not yet mentioned here, please let us know by sending an email to info@rothaarsteig.de.

Timber harvesting measures - Important information!

The forestry offices on the Rothaarsteig would like to point out that due to the bark beetle problem and the associated necessary timber harvesting measures in the forests, hiking trails may be closed at short notice. Walking on closed paths is prohibited and life-threatening! We ask you to observe the closures and not to enter these paths.
You can also find more information on how to behave in the forest at: https: //www.wald-und-holz.nrw.de/wald-erleben/verhalten-im-wald
We would like to point out that the condition of the paths may be somewhat affected due to the necessary timber harvesting measures.

Specific restrictions are currently known known in the following areas:

  • 07.11 Complete closure between Lahnquelle and Haincher Höhe
Due to a hunt, the Rothaarsteig will be completely closed between Lahnquelle and Haincher Höhe on 07.11 until 13:00. Due to the size of the hunt, the surrounding paths are also affected and unfortunately no detour can be set up. After 13:00 the area can be passed again without danger. Stage 7 (from the source of the Lahn to Wilgersdorf) is affected on the 8-stage variant. Stage 5 (from Lützel to Haincher Höhe) is affected on the six-stage variant.
  • 13.11 Diversion between Lützel and Benfe
On 13.11, the Rothaarsteig has to be rerouted between Lützel and Benfe. A detour is clearly signposted. For the 8-stage variant, this affects stage 6 (from Lützel to Lahnquelle). If you are hiking the Rothaarsteig in 6 stages, this concerns stage 5 (from Lützel to Haincher Höhe).

Avoiding forest fires
To avoid forest fires, please observe the following rules!

  • Observe the legal smoking ban in the forest - it applies in spring, summer and fall, more precisely: from March 1 to October 31.
  • Observe the ban on open fires in the forest and within 100 meters of the forest.
  • Take glass out of the forest - the burning glass effect can cause forest fires.

When it is (too) late:

  • Extinguish small incipient fires if it is safe to do so. Check the area carefully if necessary.
  • Report fires via "112".
  • Leave the danger zone by the shortest route.

The forest will thank you!
